Thom Browne Does It Again

Call it crazy if you want too, but no one has influenced men’s fashion as much as Thom Browne in recent years. Besides, anyone that can inspire American men to wear clothes that actually fit should be praised for that accomplishment alone.

Browne entered the business as a Giorgio Armani salesman, but his unique style and fashion sense quickly drew the attention of Ralph Lauren. He then worked for Lauren’s Club Monaco brand where he spent several years in design and merchandising. In 2001 he launched his own label which has become a full fledged fashion megahouse. Even the simplest of Thom Browne suits now starts at $5,000.

Known mostly for his avant-garde approach at styling men in slim fitting suits that are often cut short at the ankle and wrist, Browne took his influences from traditional tennis attire for the Spring 2009 collection. To everyone’s surprise, a few cues from hip hop street style showed up as well. Many of the looks included pants with waistlines that began mid-thigh as a declaration that “sagging” has not only worked its way onto the runway but potentially into a businessman's wardrobe as well. There was also a very strong presence of Black models included in the show's lineup.

Enjoy a few of my favorite clips from the runway below or visit http://www.style.com/ for the entire show.
