Major Man : Bry'Nt

Anyone that still believes hip hop can only come in one casing has clearly been listening with their ears and minds closed for the past twenty years. After all, hip hop’s most essential quality is its universality. Hip hop is love, its pain, and it’s the story of a life set to music and words, all wrapped up in a rhythm that everyone can bob their head to.

Major Man of the week BryNt is no exception to this legacy. Both lyrically vibrant and melodic, his music takes you on a journey; a day in the life - if you will - of gay rapper that’s determined to transcend all the obstacles the industry has in his way. On tracks like Transformers and Not Home he puts together that familiar New York street sound with his own unique yet tailor made for story telling flow he'll soon be famous for. Check them out now on his MySpace page and get to know the man himself up close and personal right here on Essentially Major.

Name: Just Bry'Nt!

Age: I am 23 years young.

Occupation: I am an up-and-coming rap artist and full-time college student.

Background: I was born in Hartford, CT. (The Heartless City!) to two African American parents.

How would you describe your personal style? I like to walk the line of trendy, eclectic, and urban.

Do you have a favorite Designer? If so, what is a must have? My favorite designer at the moment is Marc Newson for G-Star. But, a must have clothing item for me is white t-shirts.

What is your “go-to” item? I can't live without my IPOD!

Who/What is your biggest influence in life? My biggest influence in life is mom dukes of course! I learned most of what I need to survive in life from her.

What has been your biggest obstacle in life that you overcame or that you intend to overcome? My biggest obstacle in life has been dealing with the adversity that comes with being an openly gay rap artist. Definitely working hard to overcome that.

Are you currently in a relationship? I am currently dating someone. I find comfort whether I am by myself or whether I am just with someone that makes me feel comfortable, if that makes sense. *LOL*

What is your biggest turn-off? My biggest turn-off is someone who is self-absorbed.

What is your biggest turn-on? My biggest turn-on is someone with a beautiful smile.

What is your worst date story? Luckily, I don't have one.

What is your biggest flaw? My biggest flaw is my tendency to procrastinate.

What will you be doing in 2009 i.e., projects, goals, etc.? My second mix tape, "Porn Star II: The Director's Cut" will be released this Spring then I will begin a Pride tour beginning this Spring as well.

What do you hate? I hate not getting enough sleep!

What do you love? Boys, food, sleep, the color white, dogs, candy, beaches, amusement parks, music, summer days, we could be here forever on this question.

What’s your favorite curse word? Fuck!

What’s your favorite food? My favorite food is Japanese food, particularly spicy tuna rolls.

What makes you a major man? I am a Major Man because what I've done in rap music is seen as very transgressive. I've given a voice to the gay black man in a clever way and have become a more realistic figure for us as well.

Any final thoughts? Check out the Myspace page to download my first mix tape "Porn Star" for free and hear songs off of my forthcoming mixtape "Porn Star II: The Director's Cut". Also
My song "Porn Star (Tramont's Remix)" can be heard on the soundtrack of the adult film BLAK (Brothas Live And Kinky) produced by Forbidden Funk Media. You can find me as a model in Francois Rousseau's nude photography book "Atelier". I am also in Spin Magazine's March 2009 issue in an article entitled "Straight Outta The Closet" and will be in Bleu Magazine's March/April Issue. You will be able to see me perform at various Pride events up and down the east coast and mid-west this Spring and Summer.
