Fall Five: The Collectable Collection

Everybody needs a holiday, even from fashion (lol). Alas, the countdown to Fashion Week must go on! The tents have already gone up in Bryant Park and pretty soon all eyes will be glued to the runway and NOT the republican national convention. And in a perfect world that’s exactly how it should be, don’t you agree?

I hate to sound cliché in saying that all good things must come to end, but it’s the one cliché that’s tried and true. If you disagree, ask Sonia Rykiel. While her name does not garner as much recognition as Givenchy or Chanel, she has played a significant part in influencing the fashion world in France. Known primarily for luxury knitwear, her mens collection, Rykiel Homme, has always been edgy, thoughtful, and fashion forward while remaining wearable for the modern man.

This January, however, Rykiel announced that after the Spring '09 showing she will suspend the mens line due to lack of recognition and sales outside of France. It’s not only that these following five looks from the Fall ’08 show are the last of their kind ... but the textures, use of color, and understanding of how stylish young men really want to dress on a day to day basis, all make this collection truly full of fashion collectables.

Again, welcome back and as always, enjoy the show!
