Fall Five: The Heir Apparent(ly)

He is who we all wish we could be. Effortlessly elegant and filthy stinking rich, this man wouldn’t flinch to front you an all expense evening on the town, even if by town he was referring to Tokyo or Dubai. Whichever you prefer really doesn’t make a difference. Take your pick and the jet will be waiting on the tarmac, along with the hard-sided Louis trunks handed down from granny and gramps. He is suave and impeccably put together down to the smallest detail, and these are his favorite runway looks for Fall 2008.

Fall Five: The Collectable Collection

Everybody needs a holiday, even from fashion (lol). Alas, the countdown to Fashion Week must go on! The tents have already gone up in Bryant Park and pretty soon all eyes will be glued to the runway and NOT the republican national convention. And in a perfect world that’s exactly how it should be, don’t you agree?

I hate to sound cliché in saying that all good things must come to end, but it’s the one cliché that’s tried and true. If you disagree, ask Sonia Rykiel. While her name does not garner as much recognition as Givenchy or Chanel, she has played a significant part in influencing the fashion world in France. Known primarily for luxury knitwear, her mens collection, Rykiel Homme, has always been edgy, thoughtful, and fashion forward while remaining wearable for the modern man.

This January, however, Rykiel announced that after the Spring '09 showing she will suspend the mens line due to lack of recognition and sales outside of France. It’s not only that these following five looks from the Fall ’08 show are the last of their kind ... but the textures, use of color, and understanding of how stylish young men really want to dress on a day to day basis, all make this collection truly full of fashion collectables.

Again, welcome back and as always, enjoy the show!

Fall Five: The Artist

Rules are made to be broken and this man has shattered every one. Everything he does is an expression of who he is and what he’s interpreted about a world everyone else is too busy to see. Cool is an understatement and making a statement is a mandatory requirement. For the artist in everyone, these Fall runway looks were all made for you.

Fall Five: The New Classic

My cousin Charles never ceases to amaze me. His sense of style is so unique, so refined, and so very very expensive (lol). He’s worked for every major fashion house in Manhattan and now styles independently while managing a boutique in the Meat Packing district. With access like his, fashion isn’t a luxury, it’s unmistakably essential. Today is his birthday and at midnight I swore I could hear the bottles popping all the way in Atlanta. In honor of him, here’s his list of items that can’t be lived without this fall. Take notes ...

1. Dior Suspenders & Cummerbund (sold as a set )

2. YSL Trenchcoat

3. Rick Owens High Top Sneakers in pony hair
(patton & suede shown below)
4. Goyard Briefcase
5. Vintage Motorcycle Jacket

Fall Five: Look Downtown

The Downtown man is distinctive in any city. He lives up the block, he works up the block. Whatever he wants, he wants it right now and he’s dressed to play the part. Manhattan, Atlanta, Paris, Toronto, London, downtown men everywhere these top five runway looks are all for you.

Fall Five: All Wrapped Up

... is the magic number this week. In revisiting all the Fall '08 shows and becoming totally overwhelmed all over again, I constantly kept the number five in mind when narrowing things down to the best of every bunch. I guess I figured if it works for my T-mobile rate plan, it couldn't hurt to try it here either.

Let's start with the reason why Fall is my favorite time of year to begin with ... the return of outerwear!!! There were so many items to choose from with every designer really pushing menswear to the max this season. All the different plays on shape, texture, color, and tons of luxe details made this the hardest list to make. After a very painful deliberation process, here are my top choices. There's one for every different kind of man and each one equally essential ...

5. Wantanabe Toggle Coat
4. Dolce & Gabbana Shearling
3. Fendi Topcoat w/Fur Collar Detail
2. Bottega Veneta Double Breasted Overcoat
1. YSL Emerald Biker Jacket
Stay tuned ... more countdowns to come all this week!!! I'm even polling five of the most fashionable people I know to tell us which five things they cant' live without this season. Whats on your list??? Let us all know by posting your fav five in the comments section!
