TiVO Alert: Bravo Brad!

Though he is one of the most annoying men I’ve ever seen on TV, he’s also one the most stylish these days. Brad Goreski of Bravo’s Rachel Zoe Project is one of the few highlights of the lackluster reality show.

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy being able to watch Rachel in her element; putting together looks for celebrities and sometimes even pulling items right off the runway. But that takes up like five minutes of camera time. The rest of the show I’m watching with the volume turned all the way down, waiting to see what Brad’s wearing this week.

Every trend out there right now, he’s tried it. A little Ralph Lauren Purple Label here a little Alexander McQueen skinny denim there. I couldn’t have created a more perfect pocket gay for Rachel Zoe if I tried. So what if the sound of his voice makes me want to jump out a 10th floor window. That’s what the mute button was made for.

Overseas Indulgence: oki-ni

Not that the exchange rates are particularly appealing in today's turbulent American economy, but for all those fat cats out there still shopping like its 1999, this post is for you.

My bestie Hunter put me on to London based e-retailer oki-ni. The site specializes in bringing shoppers the very best in contemporary/international menswear merchandise. Think Barney's with a less conservative perspective. Look to them for signature items that make bold statements like this ...

... Jil Sander Diamond Bag ...
... or the Alexander McQueen PUMA Scarred Street Trainer

Reel to Real Rundown: Todd to the Rescue

"If I see LL two mo times ... " - Natalie Desselle as "Mickey" in the 1997 movie BAPS.

When the highlight of one of your favorite shows is the guest star, it’s time to reprioritize your TV lineup. Mr. Smith showed up to judging last night. Partly to promote his new clothing line, but also to let the competitors know how authentic their music inspired outfits for each other turned out. But aside from Ladies Love, I could have drank a V8. This season has had way too many quirky challenges and not enough high fashion or catwalk cat fights. I hate to say it, but important as it is to find contestants with real talent, throw in a couple of crazies to keep the party going a little longer.

Highlight: Michael Kors describing Korto as“a woman going out to eat ribs” in her country getup.

Best Backstab: Jerell convincing Kenley that her look was right on point from start to finish.

Quote I'll Most Likely Be Repeating: “It just didn’t make the point.” – Nina to Kenley regarding her hip hop look for Leanne.

Winner: Korto's punk look for Suede
Out: Suede's rocker look for Jerell

Tyra gave Top pick to Clarke last night, but I think she should have overlooked Analeigh's lackluster eye work for the legs she served up in this photo. What do you think?

Trend Tracking

“Without a doubt, it’s one of the biggest accessories this season, if not the biggest,” said Dan Peres, the editor of Details in the Don Coelman New York Times article about the significance of the scarf to men's fashion.

I would have to agree. John Legend did it at the VMA’s. Chris Brown gave us his version on Fashion Rocks. Something tells me that pretty soon no one will be able to go out for a drink without seeing a reinterpretation of their silk scarves and neckerchiefs on every corner. A few more examples of the trend below:

Kanye West, Jonas Brothers, YSL, Justin Timberlake.

Reel to Real Rundown: Cloning Kenley

Maybe I’ve watched The Invasion with Nicole Kidman one too many times (since HBO’s practically been running a marathon of it all week). But as soon as I saw the mother/daughter pair that was assigned to Kenley on this week’s episode of Runway, I felt like I should probably add another deadbolt to my front door just in case the epidemic has already started spreading. As if she needed another reason to invoke the 50’s into her design, Kenley lucked up with a girl who looks exactly like her for a challenge that was all about designing for someone else's personal style. In a weird way, the same thing also happened to challenge winner Jerell. He got a tall, lanky, androgynous young lady who I imagine shared a lot of parallels with his own lifestyle … for lack for a better word. Honestly, now that all of the final collections have already shown in Bryant Park I totally want to just fast forward straight through to the season finale.

Highlight: Kato actually breaking a smile after weeks of being among the top three designers on the runway.

Best Backstab: Kenley for (yet again) inappropriately sniggling during someone else critique.

Quote I'll Most Likely Be Repeating: “You could almost wear that and go to a Working Girl party.” - Michael Kors in reference to Joe’s pinstriped interpretation of professional.

Winner: Jerell
Out: Joe
